The
League of Jewish Women The League works for all denominations in the field of welfare. 550 members go out weekly on a rota system to assist Bury, Manchester, Salford and Trafford Social Services, hospitals, schools, prisons and reminiscence work, all serving both Jewish and wider communities. Care Concern provides a Loss & Bereavement Counselling Service. The League runs a weekly Luncheon Club and nine Friendship Clubs for senior citizens in the Jewish community. Holland Road Club provides day activities and meals to elderly people each Thursday, under the care and supervision of the League of Jewish Women. Manchester
Jewish Community Care Provides day care for those with visual impairment, physical disability, elderly, frail, lonely or suffering from a dementia-related illness. The Day Centre has a state-of-the-art Bathing Room catering for those who are unable to bathe themselves at home. The Nicky Alliance Day Centre is open Monday-Thursday 10am-4pm, and on Friday 10am-1pm and offers a wide range of social, cultural, therapeutic and educational activities as well as a hot three-course lunch under the supervision of the Manchester Beth Din. Transport can be provided using our own buses. The Day Centre offers members other facilities including: a Hairdressing Salon, Nail Care, Chiropody, Library and Convenience Shop, and provides a "Meals-on-Wheels" service. The League of Jewish Women run the Northern Jewish Talking Newspaper, which records the Jewish Telegraph each week for people with impaired vision. A Social Worker is available at the Centre to assist members either at the Centre or in their home. The building provides office space and meeting facilities for the Greater Manchester Jewish Housing Association, the League of Jewish Women, the Jewish Marriage Council and Care Concern. The Fed carries out professional assessments of people's care needs and, as required, puts in place its own or outside support. This can mean providing a befriender for a lonely older person, arranging a break for a parent caring for a child with special needs, or setting up a complex package of care to enable a disabled person to continue to live in their own home. The Fed enjoys accreditation from Health and Local Authorities and the Care Quality Commission. Since November 2007 it has held the Investing in Volunteers Award and since January 2009, the Investors in People Kite-mark.
